Hatch ISU is a crowdfunding platform to help Illinois State faculty, staff and students secure funding so their ideas and passions can grow. Hatch ISU projects focus on our goal of gladly teaching and learning and allow us to showcase our unique and exciting projects and programs.
Who is eligible to use Hatch ISU?
Hatch ISU is open to all faculty, students and staff at Illinois State University who are seeking gifts for University affiliated initiatives and projects. Hatch cannot be used to fund independent business or funding ventures, for anyone affiliated with Illinois State University.
When are Hatch applications due?
Applications will be accepted on a revolving basis. Please visit the "Apply" page to submit your project application.
How do groups access the funds they raise?
All projects will keep any funds raised even if the goal isn’t achieved. Funds will only be deposited in Illinois State University Foundation accounts. Hatch ISU staff will work with project team leaders and, where appropriate, establish appropriate accounts linked to a fiscal agent.
Who decides that a project will be added to Hatch ISU?
A Hatch ISU panel, comprised of University members from marketing and fundraising staff, will review all applications and approve them based on project essentials: team commitment, project appeal and goal achievement potential.
How much information do I need to provide on the application?
Provide as much as much and as detailed as possible. It is easier to assess project potential if you answer each question thoroughly and explain why you posses the tools to run a successful crowdfunding project. Projects must be able to appeal to a broader audience and have the potential to become viral on social media. In your application, explain how your group is unique and what you would do with the funds that you raise.
What is an appropriate funding goal for projects?
We recommend a fundraising goal of between $2,500 and $8,000. We will consider each project's goal on a case-by-case basis.
What kinds of projects can be submitted?
Anyone affiliated with an academic unit or recognized student group by Student Affairs may apply to Hatch ISU, Hatch welcomes applications from faculty, staff and student teams with at least six members. The best crowdfunding projects have a specific deadline creating a sense of urgency to encourage gifts during the 30 day period during which a project is live. Is my payment secure?
Absolutely. Hatch ISU utilizes a technology called TouchNet that is PCI Level 1-compliant. When making a gift at Hatch.IllinoisState.edu you will be redirected to TouchNet with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts all of the information you input to securely process payments.
Are Hatch ISU project gifts tax-deductible?
Contributions to Hatch projects support specific areas of Illinois State University and are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Can I send a gift by mail or phone?
No. All gifts to Hatch ISU projects (except the 2017 Redbird socks campaign) should be submitted online, unless you are able to make arrangements with the project leaders.
