HOW IT WORKS
We need 100 Alumns to give $100 each towards the Student Assistance Fund which gives students emergency financial assistance when unexpected obstacles arise.
Students are facing increasing economic hardship as they strive towards their degree goals. Mary Campbell and Jeanne Howard, both professors emeritus who taught in the School of Social Work for decades, are leading the charge to raise dollars for ongoing emergency support available specifically for our social work students. Let's support the next generation of social workers!
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Mildred Pratt Student Assistance Fund was set up in 1993 in honor of Dr. Mildred Pratt. This fund is to be used for the purpose of emergency financial aid scholarships for students in the school of social work.
Raised by her mother as one of eight siblings in rural east Texas during the Great Depression, Pratt became a college professor when less than one percent of full professors were black women. Teaching at Illinois State for decades, Pratt is credited with first suggesting a child care center at the University in 1970. Her inspirational life story provided an insightful look at issues of race, class, and gender in America.
