ISU String Project World Premiere

The award-winning string trio 9 Horses will be in residence at Illinois State University on November 7th and 8th, 2017. This residency will include a variety of workshops and master classes for our String Project and Illinois State students, culminating in a public concert on November 8th.  The ISU String Project has the opportunity to collaborate and perform with the group on their concert which will feature a BRAND NEW piece written especially for the ISU String Project with 9 Horses.

Why are we asking for your gift?

The ISU School of Music is graciously sponsoring the group's residency fee.  However, additional funding is required for the musical collaboration between 9 Horses and the ISU String Project. We are very excited that mandolinist and composer Joseph Brent will be writing a piece just for our program! To ensure that our students have access to this once in a lifetime experience, we have launched our very first "Hatch" crowd-funding campaign so that those who love the ISU String Project can support our students.

Who gets to perform the new piece?

All Vivace and Sinfonia students (Fall 2017) will get to perform on the concert. Any students graduating from String Project in Spring 2017 will also be invited to perform.  Performing students will not need to purchase a ticket for the concert.

More about 9 Horses

Performing violin, mandolin, and bass, 9 Horses creates a musical canvas where no barrier between "folk art" and "fine art" exists.  They have given workshops and concerts across the USA and internationally, and were the winning ensemble of the 2016 21CM Emerging Artists Competition.  To learn more about 9 Horses and hear their music, visit: http://www.josephbrent.com/9horses/

Our campaign will be active for four weeks, and gifts of all sizes will help us reach our goal quickly.
